High winds made conditions difficult at the Globe Arena with neither side doing enough to pick up three League 2 points in a game of few chances.

The result means Morecambe failed to score for the third home game in a row as they picked up their 10th clean sheet of the season.

The hosts, playing with the strong wind in the first half, had the first real attempt at goal on the quarter hour as Jamie Devitt’s free-kick from 30 yards went narrowly over the crossbar.

For the visitors Shamir Fenelon expertly turned Andy Parrish shortly after with his shot being deflected narrowly wide of Andreas Arestidou’s right-hand post.

Both sides struggled to find any rhythm in difficult conditions however with the Shrimps often guilty of wasting possession.

Efforts on goal were by and large speculative with Jack Redshaw’s shot on the turn from 20 yards testing Owain Fon Williams low to his left five minutes before the break.

The best opening of the half came on the stroke of the interval, Kevin Ellison finding room in behind on the right side of the area but his effort one-on-one with Fon Williams was wide of the far post.

Rovers were first to go close after the break, Marc Laird heading over Liam Ridehalgh’s cross from eight yards when he should have tested Arestidou, the Shrimps ‘keeper making his first League 2 start for 17 months.

Swansea loanee Rory Donnelly was next to try his luck for the visitors, bending a shot narrowly wide 10 minutes into the second half as Micky Adams’ side came out of the traps the quicker.

It continued to be a game of few clear-cut chances with Ellison, playing against his former club, twice nearly fashioning openings for the Shrimps who pressed in spells without really testing Fon Williams.

The Tranmere ‘keeper was more than equal to Jack Redshaw’s effort from 20 yards with time almost up as both sides’ endeavours saw the game end honours even.
