MORECAMBE played out a highly entertaining goalless draw with Port Vale at the Globe Arena on Saturday. .
The Shrimps played some of their most fluent football at the Globe for some time but also wasted several good opportunities to clinch a seventh home win of the campaign.
Exciting forward Jack Redshaw had the Shrimps’ two best chances of the game, both with rare headers from right wing crosses from Izak Reid.
The first came just after the hour when he headed straight at Port Vale keeper Stewart Tomlinson and then 13 minutes from time he had a similar chance but this time got his timing all wrong and shouldered the ball tamely goalwards.
Port Vale were second best for most of the game but almost shocked the Shrimps with an opener in the early seconds of the game when Louis Dodds ran through the Morecambe midfield and produced a shot that was deflected inches wide of the right hand post.
Redhaw’s strike partner Jordan Burrow almost put the Shrimps ahead in the first half when a Tomlinson punch hit him full on but the ball flew just wide of the post.
Tomlinson produced a better moment when he reacted smartly to block Burrow’s close range effort as he tried to get the finishing touch to a dangerous ball in the Valiants’ box.
The visitors’ only moments of threat in the second half came from Sean Rigg who drilled one low effort just past the post and tested Barry Roche before the Shrimps almost snatched victory at the death when young substitute Joe Mwasile teed up Craig Curran with a pinpoint cross but the on-loan striker failed to find the target from close range and the Shrimps had to settle for a point.
