Danny McGahon’s eighth-minute goal was enough to see Garstang to a 1-0 win at Hesketh Bank in the West Lancashire Premier Division on Saturday.
The game was a largely mundane affair at the Centenary Sports Ground with Neil Crossley’s side creating enough chances to have run out more comfortable winners.
For their part Hesketh Bank missed their best opportunity when they missed a controversial first-half penalty.
Matty Bell was adjudged to have brought down his man but Jim Brindle dived full length to keep out Ayibongwe Mabhena’s spot kick.
Chances in the second half saw Dodd shoot over for Crossley’s men with Andy Taylor also preserving the lead with a goal-line clearance.
David Jack also saw a late chance to make the game safe saved.
This Saturday Garstang, seventh in the table, travel to Burnley United, who had been due to host Slyne-with-Hest on Saturday only for the game to called off.
Third in West Lancashire Premier Division Slyne host Fleetwood Hesketh on February 28.
