THE Holdens Solicitors/Gibson Challenge Cup final was held at Lancaster City’s Giant Axe last Thursday.
The game started at a frenetic pace with Caton United creating several early chances.
The first goal fell to Caton after only five minutes which followed an excellent five man move that was finished emphatically by Chris Wright.
Caton continued to press and their efforts were rewarded after 20 minutes when following a powerful run and cross by the tireless Steve Oliver, Chris Wright tapped into an empty net for his second.
The second half started much better for Bolton-le-Sands who dominated the early exchanges and were unlucky not to score after excellent work from their best player on the night, Andy Banks.
As the half wore on the Caton United midfield, excellently marshalled by man of the match Adam Lund, gradually regained control and on 85 minutes following another excellent pass from Steve Oliver, substitute Darren Green was able to slide the ball past the Bolton-le-Sands keeper to make the score 3-0.
In the 90th minute Bolton-le-Sands grabbed what turned out to be a consolation goal from Chris Naylor.
Following an excellent pass from Andy Banks, the young Caton United keeper Haydn Roberts spilled the ball under pressure from Naylor who tapped in to finish what was a highly entertaining match.
