The Dolly Blues skipper will lead a side against a Liverpool Legends and Invited Guests team at Giant Axe on Tuesday, April 26.

Marshall’s team is likely to include some of the City favourites he has played with at the club having made more than 400 appearances across a 10-year career.

The central defender is retiring at the end of the season due to an ongoing battle with cancer and says a game against the team he has supported since he was a boy is the perfect way to bring down the curtain on his Dolly Blues career.

Marshall said: “When Trevor Sinclair (former Lancaster City assistant boss) was here he suggested it and it’s gone from there.

“I was just hoping somebody from Liverpool would turn up so to have quite a few is going to be great.

“It’ll be a fantastic way to end 10 years with the club.”

Marshall, who attends as many Liverpool games as his football commitments allow, announced in January his health battle meant he was hanging up his boots to spend more time with his family.

As well as facing Liverpool greats the 31-year-old is looking forward to lining up alongside some of his former Dolly Blues team mates on a night being organised by local football figure George Norrie.

Marshall said: “I’m really looking forward to getting some of the lads back together.

“It should be a good night.

“It’ll just be a good laugh. I’ve even roped my dad in to play!”

Former Dolly Blues boss Darren Peacock and assistant Trevor Sinclair are set to be involved.

Players in the Liverpool side are to be confirmed, as are ticket details for what is set to be a 7pm or 7.15pm kick-off on April 26.
