Lancaster City Ladies got their revenge with a derby win over Galgate on Sunday.
With the village side having won on the opening day of the Lancashire FA Women’s County League Division Two season it was the Dollies’ turn to celebrate after a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture.
In a tight, goalless first half Lancaster’s Kayleigh Young came close for the visitors but found her shot helped round the post.
City were in front 10 minutes into the second half with Alison Capstick firing home on the half volley from 18 yards.
Despite the best efforts of Galgate’s star player Sammie Stuart in defence Young doubled Lancaster’s lead four minutes later with a shot into the bottom corner.
Georgia Wilson saw two efforts go just the wrong side of the bar and Capstick came close to a second but the third goal didn’t come.
It mattered not though as Galgate lost for the first time this season.
