The time was right for club captain Ricky Mercer and stalwart defender Rob Henry to leave Lancaster City – that is the view of manager Phil Brown.

Time was right for Dolly Blues duo Ricky Mercer and Rob Henry to go

The pair will always have a special place in Dolly Blues supporters’ hearts after they helped the club to the NPL First Division North title in 2017.

However, Mercer ended his second spell at the club last weekend when he joined Clitheroe.

And Brown also revealed that Henry has joined Ramsbottom United.

“Ricky’s done really well for me,” said Brown.

“He’s a good player and is somebody I have known before he came to us.

“I played with him when he was first at the club as a young player which is a long time ago now.

“He left and went on to achieve things at other clubs.

“I brought him back a couple of years ago and I knew what I was getting.

“Rob’s had a few injuries over the last 12 months and he’s decided its time for a different challenge.

“But that’s football – players move.

“They were both part of the championship-winning squad and I would like to thank them for their efforts. They will always have that on their CV.”
