Lancaster City to put finishing touches to pre-season preparations against Spennymoor Town

The Dolly Blues wrap up their pre-season schedule when they host National League North outfit Spennymoor Town at Giant Axe on Saturday.

Last weekend City lost 4-3 away to Workington and on Tuesday they were 3-0 winners over Kendal Town at Parkside Road.

Having kept the vast majority of his squad, boss Mark Fell has added to it with a number of key signings such as veteran defender Andrew Teague and former Oldham and Morecambe striker Rhys Turner.

He has also run the rule over a number of triallists – one of which Christian Sloan has won a permanent deal.

Fell was expected to make decisions on the rest of the players who have been on trial after the Kendal game, with this weekend’s fixture expected to feature the players who will be lining up the following week for the first league game of the new season.

“We have got three trialists at the club and I wanted to give them some game time over these games,” said Fell.

“Ordinarily, I would have liked to have made a decision on them by now but we lost the Padiham friendly because of the weather so I felt it was only right that we gave them a fair crack of the whip.

“After Kendal, the team which goes into the game against Spennymoor – that will be us.

“I wouldn’t expect too many changes for the first game against Stafford.”

Meanwhile, Fell declared himself pleased with the victory over Kendal after the narrow loss to Workington.

On Saturday, City were without a host of players for the trip to face the Reds, but had more of a familiar look in midweek.

“I thought we gave a decent account of ourselves for 60 minutes on Saturday,” he said.

“A few lads came back in on Tuesday and we made a decent start and got two goals in two minutes which made the game dead and it became a pre-season friendly then.”
