Lancaster City 0-3 Mossley

Two penalties, 11 yellow cards, two red cards and three goals that were unfortunately all in the wrong end for City on a Saturday afternoon.

Lancaster boss Phil Brown pulled no punches after the defeat, calling the display “unacceptable”.

Despite the scoreline, Mike Hale had a relatively quiet afternoon as the visiting side proved clinical in front of goal.

Kyle McGonigle drilled a 20-yard free-kick low past Hale in the fourth minute of the game, and doubled the visitors lead shortly after the restart, a shot rebounding heavily off Dollies’ skipper Neil Marshall and trickling into an unguarded net.

Charlie Russell was sent off Lancaster midway through the first half for a controversial second booking. The midfielder went down under a challenge from ‘keeper Liam Flynn, no penalty was given and Russell was awarded his second yellow.

At the other end, Michael Thomas was shown a straight red for bringing down Zach Clark running through on goal. To sum up the Dollies’ day Ryan Winder’s penalty was too central and saved as City missed the chance to draw level.

Late in the game Mossley were awarded a penalty of their own when Gav Clark bundled over Godwin Abadaki. Thomas Dean dispatched the spot kick to seal the points for the Lillywhites.

City next travel to Lancashire rivals Bamber Bridge in the League Cup on Tuesday night.
