Lancaster City head coach Darren Peacock was pleased with what he saw from his inexperienced side as they kicked off pre-season with a thumping win on Tuesday night.
The Dolly Blues were 6-0 winners over near neighbours Garstang in blazing sunshine at Lancaster and Morecambe College.
Peacock said: “I’m pleased.
“There were players missing and the young lads who came in did really well.
“We’ve got some new faces and from that point of view it was good because they’ve settled quickly.
“The fitness is coming along but there’s still a lot of hard work to be done.”
The preparation for the new Evo-Stik First Division North campaign continues with Peacock’s first game in charge of City at Giant Axe this Saturday.
North West Counties First Division side Chadderton are the visitors to the city with the former Blackburn and Newcastle defender looking forward to his home bow.
Peacock said: “I’m really looking forward to it.
“The players are as well. They’re raring to go for the first home game.
“Every game isn’t going to be like Tuesday but hopefully we can carry on from then because it’ll be a tough game.
“There’ll be a few changes with players coming back but we’ll have a look what we’ve got on Thursday (in training).
“It’s difficult because we’ve not had one session where all the players have been here but we’re all looking forward to the season getting underway.”
The game at Giant Axe kicks off at 3pm.
