Jim Bentley will relinquish the Morecambe managerial position
Morecambe have confirmed that Jim Bentley will remain with the club – but is stepping down as first-team manager.
The Shrimps announced on Tuesday morning that Bentley is taking on an as yet unspecified role to ‘help support the club’s development across both footballing and non-footballing areas.’

It came three days after Morecambe’s third relegation in four seasons was sealed, leaving them playing in National League North for 2026/27.
Morecambe chairman Kuljit Singh Momi said: “Although Jim has confirmed his wish to step down from the first team manager’s role, I am delighted that we will continue to benefit from his undoubted passion, knowledge and experience of all things Morecambe to help drive the club forward once again.
“Not only is Jim a Morecambe footballing legend, and I thank him most sincerely for his efforts and contribution over the last three months, he is also a great ambassador for the club and his valuable input alongside our executive leadership team will be integral to the continued rebuild of our wonderful football club.”
Bentley returned for a second spell in charge at the start of February, with Ashvir Singh Johal having departed after five wins from 28 league games.
A run of 10 points from five matches in February and March raised hopes Morecambe could complete a great escape, only for five points from the next seven games to seal their fate.
Morecambe added: “The search for a new first-team manager is already underway and further details will be announced in due course.
“In the meantime, everyone at Morecambe FC wishes Jim every success in his new role.”
