Jim Bentley: Morecambe on the right track ahead of Luton trip

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley believes a positive result is just around the corner if his side continue to perform like they did against Carlisle on Saturday.

The Shrimps have lost seven of their last eight league games and have dropped to 18th in the League 2 table but showed plenty of positive signs in the controversial 2-1 defeat against the Cumbrians.

Bentley takes his side to Luton Town on Tuesday night and insists they will be doing their all to get back to winning ways.

He said: “Saturday was hard to take because we were undone again by two shocking decisions but my lads gave me everything and I was proud of them.

“The first 45 minutes was one of the best halves of football I have seen since I have been in charge and if we had 2-0 up like we should have done a the start of the second half then it could have been a very different story again.

“The lads were really down after the game and there were some bruised and bloodied bodies but I know that if we continue to play like that we will win more games than we will lose.”

Luton beat the Shrimps at the Globe Arena earlier in the season but have since failed to find the form expected of them and have sacked manager John Still with former Brighton & Hove Albion coach Nathan Jones now in charge.

But despite their poor season Bentley knows they have plenty of threat.

He said: “I thought they were excellent at our place and were one of the best teams I’ve seen at the Globe this season.

“But for one reason or another things just haven’t gone for them and their fans will have expected better.

“But they still have a lot of good players and we know it will be a tough game.

“We had a bit of luck there last year with a late own goal giving us the three points and it would be brilliant if we could have some more luck like that again on Tuesday.”
