The 19-year-old has signed on a three-month youth loan from Preston North End and scored twice in the 5-2 reserve team at AFC Liverpool just hours after signing on Wednesday.

After spells with Stalybridge Celtic and Stockport County he now he wants to turn undoubted promise into consistent Football League performances – starting with Morecambe’s League opener at Hartlepool United on Saturday.

Ryan said: “I’ve come here to do what I do best and that’s score goals.

“If I do that then it will only help me get in the Preston team.

“I need to try to push up the Football League ladder and play as high as I can.”

The move happened very quickly with Ryan’s arrival at the Globe Arena announced two hours before his Shrimps bow on Merseyside.

The Barrow-born striker however started as he means to go on.

Ryan said: “After training the other day my agent gave me a ring to say Morecambe were interested but nothing was agreed and then the next day I was told I was off and that I had a game in the evening.

“Jim Bentley gave me a ring before the game and there I was welcomed by the lads. They’re a great bunch.

“It was then good to start how I did. I needed the goals.

“It’s all about confidence and you want to score in every game you play and it’s great for my confidence to score two goals.”

Ryan, who has made a couple of senior appearances for North End, has been learning from two of the Football League’s best strikers in his time at Deepdale - Joe Garner and Jermaine Beckford.

The powerful front man said: “I’m very young in the game.

“I’ve played a couple of times which is good for someone of my age but when you’ve got the likes of Joey Garner and Becks who are very experienced in this league you’re not going to play every week.

“I look up to them, watch them play and hopefully coming here can help me develop more and get in that team.”
