Midfielder Charlie Russell, striker Louis Mayers and defender Joshua Westwood have all been with the Dolly Blues during their first two pre-season training sessions.

Russell spent time on loan with the club from Stockport last season while Mayers, the son of former Lancaster and Morecambe player Kenny, arrives from City’s Evo-Stik First Division North rivals Clitheroe.

Westwood meanwhile has impressed for Squires Gate in the North West Counties Premier Division.

Brown said: “Charlie Russell did really well for us last season, a combative midfielder who has plenty of experience for a young lad.

“Louis Mayers gives us a different option up front. He’s strong, fit and athletic and has good quality on the ball.

“He knows where the back of the net is too and will give us a bit of aggression up there.

“There’s also Joshua Westwood who’s been with Squires Gate for the last few years and I’ve been monitoring him.

“He wants to step up and I’m confident he can progress.”

Brown played alongside Mayers’ dad Kenny at Giant Axe and has been keeping an eye on the front man’s career.

He said: “I played with Kenny who knows a lot about this club.

“I’ve known Louis a long time, He used to come down and be on the sidelines when we were players.
“I’ve followed his career and tracked his development and am really pleased to get him as I am with the others.”

With three new faces confirmed Brown is hoping for a couple more before the start of the new campaign.

He said: “I’m hoping to have a couple more signings between now and the beginning of the season.
“There should be some more activity in the next couple of weeks.”

The Dolly Blues are building up to their first pre-season friendly against a Stockport County XI at Myerscough College next Tuesday, July 12, and Brown is happy with what he’s seen so far.

He said: “There’s been good energy and I’ve been pleased with the effort and quality of what they’ve done.
“We’ve only had two sessions and Rome wasn’t built in a day but the players will kick on when they’re put into a competitive environment.

“The players are looking forward to it and I am too.

“I’ll get to see how players fit and look at different combinations.
“I’m looking forward to the games but won’t dismiss the training because that’s where the foundations are put in.”
