Neil Crossley made a winning start as Garstang manager as a patched-up Riversiders side extended their unbeaten run to eight games with a 4-3 victory over Burnley United.

Without top scorer Matty Poole and skipper Gary Fawcett amongst others the hosts went behind early.

Garstang were level on 11 minutes however with man of the match Leon Gierke finishing well after some good work from Tom Graham and Ryan Dodd.

Gierke had his second to put the Riversiders in front on 24 minutes, heading home Danny McGahon’s cross as the full back impressed on his return to the club from Kendal Town.

Burnley were back level two minutes before the break, Blackburn reacting quickest in the area to fire past Thornley to make it 2-2.

Garstang were back in front within two minutes of the restart however, Gierke being brought down in the area before picking himself up to complete his hat-trick from the spot.

Gierke then had his fourth on 53 minutes as the hosts looked to have taken control of things with a 4-2 lead.

The visitors pulled a goal back with an unstoppable shot from Oliver Wood 10 minutes from time however to set Garstang nerves jangling.

Wood then hit the post but Crossley’s side hung on to move up to sixth in the West Lancashire Premier Division.

They next host Hesketh Bank this Saturday, November 1, in a 2pm kick-off.

Slyne-with-Hest were 3-2 winners over Croston Sports in the Lancashire FA Amateur Shield third round to set up a quarter-final tie at Lostock St Gerards on November 15.
