Gary McDonald could be set for Morecambe

MORECAMBE could be set to sign former Hamilton midfielder Gary McDonald.

McDonald left the relegated SPL side at the end of the season and is rumoured to be due at the Globe Arena today, Thursday, to discuss a move.

The former Aberdeen man, 29, made nearly 70 appearances for Oldham between 2006 and 2008, scoring the only goal in the Greater Manchester side’s 1-0 win over Everton in the third round of the FA Cup in January 2008.

Shrimps boss Jim Bentley has been on the lookout for a midfielder after fans’ favourite Craig Stanley elected to join Bristol Rovers, rather than resign with the club.

Bentley told The Visitor this week he was hopeful of adding two more players to his squad before the weekend.

The new boss has made two additions since taking over from Sammy McIlroy, signing wingers Kevin Ellison and Izak Reid from Rotherham and Macclesfield respectively.
