Garstang 5-1 Euxton Villa

Garstang returned to action with a 5-1 win over Euxton Villa at The Riverside on Tuesday night to close the gap at the top of the West Lancashire Football League Premier Division to just two points.

Euxton came flying out of the blocks, full of confidence having beaten last season’s champions Longridge Town on Saturday, and they were soon in front when the right winger got free and pulled the ball back to an unmarked Davies who smashed the ball home from six yards.

On 36 minutes Garstang got back on terms when O’Conner’s free kick was headed on by Alan Coar to Josh Westwood, and although his first effort was blocked by the keeper the ball bounced back onto his chest and ended up in the net.

Three minutes later Jonny Hothersall twisted and turned on the edge of the box before firing a shot into the bottom corner and the game had been turned on its head. as Garstang led 2-1 at the half time break.

Only three minutes into the second half Tom 
Entwisle’s corner was won by Ric Coar, whose header was well saved, but Alan Coar followed up and smashed the ball in off the bar to make it 3-1.

Euxton’s day got worse when Davies, who had already been booked, dived in the penalty area and was given a second yellow card.

In the 80th minute Salisbury burst into the box and was brought down for a penalty which was duly dispatched by Entwistle, and Poole’s persistence paid off when his left footed shot made it 5-1 late on.
