Goals from veterans Peter Wright and Lee Ashcroft were enough to see Fulwood Amateurs through to the final of the Richardson Cup final with a 2-0 win over Garstang on Saturday.

The opening half belonged to the hosts as visitors Garstang struggled to get out of their own half in the face of a strong wind.

Garstang finally cracked in the 40th minute when Ashcroft pulled away from his marker at the back post to head home a perfect cross from Mackenna.

With the game turned round in the second half, Iain Swan’s side were soon on the offensive with Matty Poole seeing a claim for a penalty waved away before Aaron Helliwell brought a save from Hawksworth.

It was Fulwood’s turn to rely on the break, Roskell did well tracking a good run by MacDonald into the Garstang box and with a well-timed tackle averting the danger.

Fulwood had a let off when Hawksworth mishandled a long Bell throw in but the ball was hacked away. The Fulwood ‘keeper then redeemed himself when he somehow smothered away a cross-come-shot from Fawcett.

Another Fulwood break saw Brindle palm MacDonald’s shot over the bar before substitute Wright, on for the injured Darren Green, fired home their second goal.

Baker saw a long-range effort tipped over the bar but Fulwood were able to see out the game without too much trouble.

Garstang travel to Slyne-with-Hest for a local derby on Tuesday night.
