Deadline day activity unlikely at Morecambe
Bentley said: “We’re always exploring avenues where we can maybe bring one or two in to freshen it up and improve us.
“But obviously with the Scott Davies deal we did at the start of the week to extend his loan we’re a little bit strapped at the moment financially.
“If we get anyone great, if we don’t we’ll just have to go with what we’ve got.
“I know what I want and what I need but we’re not a bottomless pit of money where we can go out and get whoever we need.
“We have enquired about one or two players but financially we’ve been beaten by other League 2 clubs.
“I’m not going to moan about it, we are what we are and just have to get on with it.”
Bentley was delighted to secure Davies until January 3 after his original month-long spell ended after the defeat at Portsmouth on Saturday.
He said: “I think he’s been brililant.
“He knows the level, he knows the club, I’m good mates with Scott and he’s been a total professional.
“He’s trained really hard, been good round the place, been good with the younger lads and ticks all the right boxes.
“I think he’s been our best player in the last month or so.
“I’m absolutely made up we could keep him.”
The goalkeeping situation is one Bentley is constantly evaluating as he looks beyond the end of Davies’ deal in January.
Bentley said: “I’m always looking because it’s such an important position.
“Joe Lumley came in and did okay at Dover, played well in the reserves, trained well, fitted in with the group and was a lovely lad.
“The only problem was with him being a London lad he was backwards and forwards.
“He’ll go back to QPR now with us having Scott signed up. It’s pointless us having Scott and Joe with Andreas back fit now.
“We’ve got to look towards January and we know that Baz (Roche) is out for the season so we’ve got to make sure we get a replacement sorted and in an ideal world that would be Scott Davies.
“But I don’t know what Scott’s plans are, I don’t know what Fleetwood’s plans are and whether financially we could afford to keep Scott Davies for another six months.”
