Crewe Alexandra 0-3 Morecambe Ladies

Megan Doherty
Megan Doherty

This was by far Morecambe Ladies’ best performance of the season so far, with another clean sheet and two goals from Megan Doherty and a low powerful shot from Melissa Brown sealing a solid memorable win in wet and blustery conditions.

The match was fairly even until Doherty scored with 10 minutes to go until half-time.

Brown’s goal 10 minutes after the break extended the lead and Megan put the game beyond doubt after 68 minutes.

Emma Reader in the Morecambe goal only had one real shot from range to worry about as Morecambe move to the top of the league.

Morecambe Ladies A 1

Blackpool FC Girls Res 0

Morecambe earned their first competitive victory of the season thanks to a Nicola Conway strike in the 22nd minute of the first half.

Almost half-way through the first half, Blackpool carelessly gave a back-pass to their keeper resulting in an indirect free-kick.

After taking a short kick to Hindle, Blackpool seemed to have cleared the ball but it was picked up again by Perry whose shot was blocked on the line by the Blackpool number two and Nicola Conway hammered the loose ball into the net.

A satisfying result at the end of sodden match and three well-deserved points. A tougher test awaits the ‘A’ Team at Preston NE Development, next week.
