The 22-year-old impressed during a spell with The Shrimps at the end of last season after signing in March, scoring two goals as he made two starts and five substitute appearances.

The powerful front man’s return to the Globe Arena was always a possibility and with a year remaining on his Prenton Park deal, The Shrimps have agreed a loan deal with the National League club.

Boss Jim Bentley said: “Cole is another young player with bags of potential.

“He showed a good attitude here last season and definitely gives us different options.

“He is a good finisher and works really hard and we hope to see him continue his development this season.’’

Stockton, Morecambe’s fourth summer signing after the arrivals of Dean Winnard, Luke Conlan and Liam Wakefield, becomes the second out and out striker in the squad ahead of next season with Paul Mullin entering the final year of his contract.

The Tranmere academy product made his first team debut for Rovers in January 2012 and scored two goals against the Shrimps in a 2-1 defeat at Prenton Park in August 2014.
