City keeping cup dream alive

FA CUP fever has well and truly gripped Lancaster City.

After Saturday’s fantastic victory over FC United of Manchester and the equally mouth-watering third qualifying round tie against Conference North side FC Halifax the whole club is simply buzzing.

Manager Tony Hesketh said the cliché of FA cup magic is alive and kicking.

He said: “The dream of progressing a few rounds, getting into that first round proper is there all right, the players love it and so do myself and Phil Brown. I can remember going to watch PNE in the 1964 cup final as an eight year old, it’s magical stuff.”

City have arguably the tie of the next round and despite taking on two leagues higher opposition, Hesketh believes they couldn’t have got a better draw.

He said: “We earned the right to be there on Saturday, played FC on their own turf and came through the test with flying colours, I don’t think we could have got a better two draws, we’ve seen off FC and now we move on to Halifax.”
