Carnforth Rangers win title after Caton's loss to Ingleton

Although Ingleton played with more determination the result was in doubt up until the final whistle.

Adam Garnet scored both goals for Caton with Joe Towers scoring two including the winner and Aaron Woodhouse for Ingleton who now move up to second place on goal difference from Caton with two games to play against Cartmel and District and Trimpel and Bare Rangers.

Ingleton play Cartmel midweek with the winners almost guaranteed to be runners up.

Cartmel have Ingleton, Caton United, Storeys and Trimpell and Bare Rangers still to play.

In the Holdens Solicitors/Gibson Cup final Carnforth Rangers Reserves were beaten 3-1 by College AFC.

The game got off to a brilliant start when after 50 seconds Robson Mooring scored a contender for the goal of the season from just outside the penalty area, his right foot shot whistled past the College keeper giving him no chance.

Within 15 minutes of the second half a defender raised his hand to the ball in the penalty area right in front of the referee, Pietr Tiesfeel calmly slotted the ball into the net for the equaliser.

College then took over the game and took the lead when Gary Davies scored to make it 2-1 before man of the match Tim Fletcher made the game safe with College’s third goal.

In Divison One, Morecambe Royals, who caused one of the upsets of the season last week when they beat Cartmel Reserves 1-0, entertained them again, this time at Salt Ayre.

Cartmel Reserves had to win their last two games to pip Westgate Wanderers to the title by one point.

Thanks to the Royals this was no end of season game, it was a match both sides had to win. The second half saw an improved Cartmel at last start to make inroads into the Royals defence.

With 60 minutes played the breakthrough came from a Cameron Young free kick which deceived the Royals keeper. The Royals never gave up but their efforts broke down on the edge of the Cartmel penalty area.

The second goal for Cartmel came with 10 minutes remaining from the boot of Jamie Chick to make the game safe.

The three points Cartmel lost to the Royals in their first game might come back and haunt them when they entertain third placed College AFC in mid-week.

A win for Cartmel at home to College AFC in mid-week will ensure they win the title and third place for College.

In the DivisionTwo Steve Presnail Printers/Whiteside Cup Semi-Final, the tie between the top two in Division Two Grange and Highgrove Reserves turned out to be a cracking match which only lacked goals in the whole of the 120 minutes played.

This was mainly due to two excellent keepers and solid defences.

Both teams were at their best which caused a stalemate as far as goals were concerned.

After just 20 minutes the Grange keeper sustained an injury to his leg which saw him hobbling about for the remainder of the game, but in the end he turned out to be the man of the match and Grange’s hero.

When the game ended goal less after extra time the tie had to be decided on penalties and despite his injury he managed to make three absolutely stunning saves to deny Highgrove and win the game for Grange.

Grange will now meet Marsh United Reserves at Galgate FC on Tuesday, May 10, kick-off 6-30pm.
