Shaun Miller’s fine form continued as Morecambe came from behind to record a first Football League win over Carlisle on Saturday.

The striker’s two goals made it four in three games as The Shrimps got back to winning ways in League 2 with a first victory in five games.

Danny Grainger had given the hosts the lead but Miller turned out to be the match-winner with a brace either side of Tom Barkhuizen’s goal.

Derek Asamoah made things interesting with a goal in stoppage time but Morecambe held on for their second fine away win of the week.

Carlisle survived an early penalty appeal, with Alan Goodall’s header appearing to hit Bastien Hery’s arm, before Jason Kennedy clipped the top of the bar with a shot from the edge of the area on six minutes.

It was flat opening however with the crowd woken by Asamoah’s 20-yard drive shortly after the quarter hour that was helped over the bar by Barry Roche.

Morecambe looked a threat on the break but it was the hosts that went in front midway through the half.

Alex McQueen’s initial shot was blocked with the ball squirming across the edge of the area, Grainger swinging a right foot at the ball on the left corner of the box with his curling effort squeezing in at the far post.

The game was opening up with Carlisle looking the more like to extend their lead.

Hery drove at the defence and shot just wide from 20 yards before Ryan Edwards had to produce a second goalline clearance of the week, heading over after Kennedy had ghosted in behind and lifted the ball over Roche.

Morecambe were well in the game though, Jamie Devitt seeing a drive from distance beaten away by Gillespie before The Shrimps were level 10 minutes before the break.

Macaulay Gillesphey gave the ball away with Miller grabbing possession and using runners either side as a decoy he drilled home a low shot from 20 yards..

It was end-to-end stuff though and the Cumbrians should have gone in front two minutes later but after Asamoah had pounced on Alex Kenyon’s back header the veteran was denied in on goal by a combination of Roche and Edwards.

Morecambe had the first sights of goal in the second period with Barkhuizen twice coming close, slicing a left foot shot wide before coming inches from converting Miller’s cross on the stretch.

But the visitors quickly began to build momentum, Kennedy’s flicked header coming back off the bar just before the hour mark.

Grainger then came close to second with a fine free-kick from distance that went narrowly wide.

It was The Shrimps who went in front on 62 minutes however.

Carlisle stopped to appeal as Kevin Ellison battled to keep the ball in play with Devitt not hesitating to carry on and feed Barkhuizen in on goal and the front man made no mistake as he beat Gillespie one-on-one for his sixth of the season.

The hosts came straight back at The Shrimps but the visitors nearly made it three on 71 minutes, Gillespie saving well after Miller’s neat turn and shot in the area.

But the striker didn’t have to wait long for his second, increasing Morecambe’s advantage two minutes later.

Devitt beat his man on the left and whipped in a cross that looked like beating the far post before Miller popped up to poke the ball home.

It was nearly four on 76 minutes but after The Shrimps broke at pace, Barkhuizen’s shot was saved by the legs of Gillespie.

Ellison and Goodall then both came close as The Shrimps threatened to extend their advantage with every attack.

Carlisle finished the game on the front foot and were rewarded for their efforts with Asamoah sweeping the ball home after Steven Rigg had flicked the ball on but it proved too little, too late.
