JIM Bentley celebrated his 50th league game in charge of the Shrimps with a fine win at the Memorial Stadium.

The Shrimps crushed Mark McGee’s side 3-0 with another convincing away performance that bodes well for the future.

Said Bentley: “I really enjoyed today and it was a great way to mark my 50th game. We looked well organised, defended well and were much better in the final third than we have been. We were clinical with our finishing which was fantastic.

“At half time I wasn’t totally happy with our forward play and had a few words but they certainly listened to me and when we turned around we were fantastic and scored three quick goals.

“We controlled the game from the early stages and everything came together. We moved the ball well and caused them a lot of problems and it was an excellent performance.’’

Such was Morecambe’s dominance that Rovers boss Mark McGee made his full squad stay after the game to watch the full video of the match to show them where things went wrong.

It’s a video that Morecambe fans may want to see for themselves as the Shrimps produced another excellent away performance.

The first half was a pretty even affair with Andy Wright almost giving the Shrimps the lead in the 16th minute with a sweetly struck volley that beat Sam Walker but came back off the post.

All the goals came in a eight second half minutes with Gary McDonald opening his account for the season on 52 minutes. Will Haining’s diagonal cross was headed down by Jordan Burrow and McDonald ran on to the loose ball to produce a cool finish.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 as defender Nick Fenton was in the right place at the right time to volley past Sam Walker from close range after Kevin Ellison’s clever ball.

The pressure continued with the Shrimps adding a third on the hour. Lewis Alessandra played in Ellison and he made no mistake with his second goal in two games to make it 3-0.

There were few scares from there. Barry Roche did well to save to from a close range Matt Gill header but from there the Shrimps’ defence held firm to mark their manager’s 50 game milestone in style.
