Jim Bentley was full of praise for Chris Doyle after the promising defender made his first appearance of the season in the defeat against Carlisle on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, who has spent time on loan with Chorley in the National League North this season, was drafted into The Shrimps’ back three with Adam Dugdale injured and Andy Parrish unwell.

Bentley said: “Andy Parrish was ill so we had to throw Doyley in but I thought he was excellent.

“He’s not trained much himself and only played one game in the last five weeks so to go in against a handful of a strike force that Carlisle have got I thought he acquitted himself well.”

Parrish could return to an injury-hit squad for the trip to Luton on Tuesday night but Dugdale faces a longer spell on the sidelines due to a tendon injury in his foot picked up at Bristol Rovers.
