Bentley: Stevenage draw a point gained

Jack Redshaw missed a first-half penalty for the Shrimps with the visitors seeing a late appeal for a spot kick of their own waved away.

Bentley said: “We didn’t start the game particularly well and that was disappointing but after the first 15 minutes we warmed into it.

“We started knocking it around, created one or two decent openings and got the penalty which is the game-changing incident.

“Whether it was or it wasn’t, we got it and I think if we’d have put it in the crowd would have been up and the momentum and the confidence would have given us something to build on.

“Stevenage might have had to come out but they’re well drilled. They had one or two chances in the first half and Scott (Davies) made two great saves.

“But in the second half I don’t remember him being worked too much but on the other hand I don’t think we’ve worked their ‘keeper well enough.

“Overall it wasn’t a great game, we know we can play better.

“There were spells when we played well but it was a little bit drab at times, it was a poor 0-0 and I couldn’t wait for the final whistle.

“Thankfully what looked like it might have been a penalty to them in the last minute wasn’t given because if we had come away with nothing we would have been very disappointed.

“It’s a clean sheet and a point gained.”

Bentley confirmed Scott Davies is set to return to Fleetwood with his loan spell ending. Both player and manager would like to extend the deal however with finances currently the stumbling block.
