JIM Bentley believes Morecambe fans could be “in for a cracker” when Preston North End visit the Globe Arena in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tonight, Tuesday.
The two sides met in the competition last year with the Shrimps going out 7-6 on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw and Bentley believes it could be more of the same this evening.
“It is a game we have all been looking forward to ever since the draw was made,” said Bentley.
“A lot has happened at both clubs since we last met in this competition 12 months ago but if the game is anything like the one we had last time we are set for an exciting evening.
“It was a great game that had a bit of everything for us, apart from the result of course. But if we have anything like the same excitement tonight then we are in for a cracker.
“We had a great result against Accrington in the last round and this was the perfect draw for us. Graham Westley has turned the club around and is doing a great job and getting a really good squad together and it will be tough for us.
“We know from our game against Preston in pre-season, which was a really competitive affair, that it will be a full-blooded game with both sides wanting to win and both sets of supporters keen to get the bragging rights.”
Kevin Ellison and Andy Wright will both be suspended for tonight’s game and Andy Parrish and Barry Roche are still struggling with injury, meaning former PNE stopper Andreas Arestidou is set to continue in goal, his penalty saves having helped eliminate Bentley’s side in the corresponding game last year.
New loan signing Jordan Mustoe is set to make his debut however after joining the club for a month from Wigan at the weekend.
Bentley said: “We looked at Jordan last year when Laurence Wilson was out and we know all about him. He had a good spell at Barnet last season and is highly regarded at Wigan and we are looking forward to seeing him play.”
It is also thought skipper Will Haining will be fit enough to be part of the squad after going off in Saturday’s goalless draw with Burton Albion after suffering an eye injury in a clash with Adi Yussuf.
