Bentley: It’s still all to play for

Victory over Mansfield on Tuesday night moved the Shrimps to within five points of the play-offs with another Globe Arena clash against Dagenham and Redbridge to come on Sunday.

The 2-1 win over the Stags also took Bentley’s side past 40 points with the Shrimps boss confident his side can challenge at the sharp end of the division come May.

Bentley said: “I said before the season started it’s going to be very tight.

“Thankfully we got the job done on Tuesday night and we’re a little bit closer to where we want to be.

“We’re looking up rather than down.

“It’s important that as we move along we put more points between ourselves and the bottom teams.

“If we do that and put one or two to bed I think when we’re playing under no pressure anything’s possible.

“We’ve seen it in the past. I think the year we finished fourth we won seven of the last nine or something because the threat of being dragged into a relegation battle wasn’t there.

“There’s teams whose budgets mean they have ambitions to get promoted at the start of the season.

“Our first port of call is to get clear of relegation but I’ve said to the lads all season we need to give ourselves every chance of breaking through into the play-off positions like York did last year and we have done in the past.

“Hopefully it’s onwards and upwards now and we look forward to another home game and hopefully we can back up Tuesday’s win with another good one on Sunday.”
