The Shrimps put in one of their worst displays of the season with goals from Ryan Donaldson and Jordan Slew handing The U’s a 2-0 win.

Bentley said: “There’s no excuses served up today.

“It’s a poor performance. I apologise to the fans, they’ve paid their money and we didn’t give a good enough account oF ourselves.

“It’s frustrating because we got a great away victory against Newport and you come back home against a team that have been struggling for results.

“I’ve been really excited looking at the fixtures coming up, looking at the league table and where we’re at.

“But today I thought we were decent for five minutes and then after that it fizzled out to nothing.

“We didn’t pass the ball well enough, we weren’t brave enough on the ball, we made too many bad decisions, out of possession we didn’t get tight enough and we let them play.

“I think that was all typified by the first goal.

“It was put in an area where it’s crying out for someone to take control but the winger got an easy tap in at the back post because it trickled across our area.

“We looked for a response in the second half and we did okay but we didn’t do enough to win the game.

“Once it got to 2-0 I could have just got in my car and driven home.

“It was one of those days but I can’t keep saying that when we’re capable of much more.

“It was disastrous and everyone’s got a right to boo us off.”
