Morecambe boss Jim Bentley branded Hartlepool’s winner “ridiculous” as The Shrimps were left to rue another missed opportunity at the Globe Arena.
After impressive away performances at Oxford and Luton, Andy Parrish’s first-half own goal condemned The Shrimps to a third straight home defeat as League 2’s bottom side picked up a vital three points.
Bentley said: “It sums us up at the minute.
“Every time we get a little opportunity to kick on we don’t take it at the moment.
“We were looking to win the game today and went very offensive.
“We created chances and I think if we’d got one we could have gone on and won the game.
“We’ve had a right good go but fair play to them, they dug in, defended well and they rode their luck at times.
“We got done by an absolutely ridiculous goal though.
“We’re used to playing with three at the back at the moment but one ball, it wasn’t a particularly good ball, more of a shanked clearance, and they’ve got in.
“It’s shocking communication and has to be dealt with.
“I thought we had a nervous edge about us at the back today and I think that spread and put us on edge at times.
“We had a good go second half and I don’t think we could have done any more. I can’t believe we haven’t scored. We could have had three or four.
“These things happen when you’re struggling at home. But it wouldn’t surprise me if we beat Shrewsbury at home on Tuesday night, one of the top sides in the division.”
“That’s the way things are going at the moment.”
