Jim Bentley believes Burton Albion should be considered amongst the favourites for promotion from League 2 this year.
The Brewers are the visitors to the Globe Arena on Saturday with the Shrimps aiming to complete the double over Gary Rowett’s side and pick up their first win since Boxing Day.
The Morecambe boss said: “They were a little bit unlucky last year but they’ve gone about their business in the right way this year and I think they’ll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
“They were a similar size club to ourselves going back a few years.
“But they’ve progressed a little bit quicker than we have. They’re paying transfer fees, they train at St George’s Park and they’ve brought in some big players.
“Financially they look like they’re having a good go and fair play to them. They’ve got a good young manager in Gary Rowett who’s doing well, a backroom staff that we know quite well.
“They’ve got players who can hurt you all over the park but it’s down to us to exploit some of their weaknesses and make sure that we snuff out some of their strengths.”
Bentley’s side are both nine points off Burton in the final play-off place and the same number of points above the relegation zone.
It is fact that hasn’t been lost on the Shrimps boss who knows his side need to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later.
He said: “We couldn’t be any more midtable but it’s a crucial couple of games to make sure that we start to catch up with those at the top and pull away from the bottom.
“Everyone’s strengthening behind us but we’ve just got to make sure we get our own house in order.
“We want to be looking up rather than down and that starts Saturday.”
