Bailey, younger brother of Lancaster City midfielder Sam, looked composed on the ball in the middle of the park while Kelleher proved a handful at the point of the attack, winning Morecambe’s first penalty after a fine flick over his head.

Bentley said: “Both of them are good players.

“They’ve got strengths which we’ve seen in their development in the youth set-up.

“Stewart Drummomnd and Neil Wainwright’s job is to bring more of them through because we do need to produce our own players and we do like giving them a chance.

“We’ve done that with Charlie and Jack and Aaron McGowan who’s still a kid too.

“He’s had a taste of the first team action and is going to have a good career ahead of him.

“The Morecambe fans who went to Kendal and saw the new homegrown players in Jack Kelleher and Charlie Bailey could see the way the senior lads reacted to them, how positive they were and how they congratulated them when they came off for two strong performances.

“We want to develop them and want them to fulfil their potential.”
