Tuesday night’s 1-0 win at Bury in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy means The Shrimps have now conceded just one goal in their last three away games.

They have however shipped 11 in three straight home defeats meaning the improved defensive showing at Gigg Lane was a welcome one for everyone involved at the Globe Arena.

Parrish said: “It came just at the right time.

“The clean sheet was really important and much needed.

“It gives us a real boost that we are good defensively and we know we can defend like that.

“It looks like we might have cracked it now but we need to take that into the league on Saturday.”

Last time Morecambe kept a clean sheet, in the 0-0 draw at Oxford, they then lost two home games in a week against Luton and Bristol Rovers.

Ahead of the trip to Brunton Park Parrish knows they need to back up the impressive showing against The Shakers.

The central defender said: “It is a cup game but we have to take that into the lead and start improving our goal difference especially.

“As a defender myself we’ve got to stop conceding goals too easily but at the end of the day it’s a squad game as the gaffer says.

“We’ve got too all work hard, from back to front, to stop conceding goals.”

Parrish’s task may be made a little easier against Carlisle with League 2’s top scorer Jabo Ibehre likely to be out.

But more than anything, the 27-year-old thinks it is the performance as Bury that will give The Shrimps confidence for the short trip north on Saturday.

Parrish said: “They’re a good side but we’re full of confidence now.

“The lads have come in and everyone’s upbeat. We’re really looking forward to the game.

“It is a positive that he’s out but the way we defended at Bury has given everyone a real boost.

“We played really well were organised, vocal and everything just seemed to gel together.

“The lads were really solid and I don’t think we really looked like conceding.

“Big Ry (Edwards) cleared one off the line for us but other than that we looked solid and I thought we created good chances as well.”
