Torrisholme first entertained Penwortham at Boundary Meadow and Matt Jackson’s side were given the honour of batting first on a good track.

A match winning knock from Dan Woods (53) was ably supported by Andy Butler (24) and finished off by the aggressive James Ferguson (39) with the support of skipper Jackson (10) to see the hosts accumulate 168-9 from their allotted overs.

Graham Lee (0-18) and Jackson (0-23) provided resistance while James Cookson (1-24) and then Dan Woods (2-17) took wickets in their first overs.

It was then left to young Jack Heap to turn the screw as the off spinner stifled the Penwortham chase, picking up wickets along the way and ultimately returning career best figures of 5-47 as the visitors fell 32 runs short.

On Sunday Torrisholme travelled to cup specialists Longridge and bowled the hosts out for 179 inside 40 overs.

Skipper Jackson (4-27) was the pick of the bowlers and he was well supported by Jack Heap (2-36), John Gates (2-17), Joe Wills (0-36) on debut and James Ferguson (1-35).

Torrisholme’s reply got off to a solid start with Dan Woods and Billy Akrigg putting 55 on for the first wicket before a mini collapse looked to put the chase in jeopardy.

However, Andy Butler (48no), Joe Wills (12) and then Jackson (38no) consolidated before Jackson picked apart the Longridge bowling.

Butler’s slog sweep for six was particularly pleasing and the batsman finished the innings in style with an on drive for four to win with an over to spare.
