Carnforth’s fine start in Greater Manchester continued as Mathew Short went on a superb solo run to score a try that he converted.

Hooker David Hones was the next to go over as he powered down the wing and the visitors were 29-0 up after just 25 minutes when Edmondson got his second under the posts.

Bury reduced the arrears with a penalty shortly before the half-time interval with the second period a good defensive test for Carnforth as the hosts came out fighting.

It was the visitors who got the game’s next try though, Short taking a loose pass and releasing Edmondson for his hat-trick try.

Bury continued to come forwards with Carnforth’s battle to prevent a try on the day in vain as Bury were awarded a penalty try with five minutes to go.

The outcome of the game had long been decided however as Carnforth take a perfect record into their home game with Blackburn 3rds this Saturday.
