Warton skipper Gareth Finney won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Shireshead to bat first, a decision which paid dividends immediately as last week’s centurion Tom Jacques was removed by S Beck (2 for 39) without scoring.

Paul Yates and Phil Bovis took the score to 20 but when G Crowther (4 for 72) removed both and Nick Rafferty quickly followed as well, the innings had slumped to 36 for 4.

Danny Wilkinson counter-attacked with two massive sixes but when Crowther removed him and Joel Dugdale in quick succession Shireshead were staring down the barrel at 47 for 6.

At this point however Peter Wilson (62 not out) took charge of proceedings as he and Simon Gould (22) added 47 for the seventh wicket.

Wilson then added a further 44 with Dave Jack after Gould had been dismissed by a peach of a ball from Marcus Nicholson (3 for 33).

Wilson ensured he steered the innings through to the climax to ensure a competitive 148 for 9 was finally posted at the tea interval.

Warton’s reply began brightly until Danny Wilkinson removed key man Ryan Nelson, bowled in the fourth over.

S Mayor (35 from 29 balls) continued his aggressive approach however whilst Ricky Nelson (3 from 39 balls) was content to sit tight at the other end as he had his hands full coping with leg-spinner Rowan Upton.

Dave Jack finally removed Mayor before giving way to batting star Wilson who then began to build the pressure on the batsmen bowling in tandem with Upton.

The pressure finally told as Upton got Nelson and Wilson then began to run through the middle order as Warton slumped to 65 for 5.

S Pemberton and Crowther added 25 for the sixth wicket but the introduction of Tom Jacques (2 for 11) put a stop to that before Wilson (5 for 15) fittingly ended proceedings with two wickets in an over as Warton were bowled out for 107.
