Wilson century fires Shireshead to win over Bare

Peter Wilson on his way to 101 not out for Shireshead against Bare.

Wilson finished 101 not out as the leaders and reigning champions posted 197-8 declared.

Dave Jack then took 6-38 as Bare were bowled out for 86, handing Shireshead an 111-run victory as they bounced back from just their second defeat of the season last time out against Milnthorpe.

Winning the toss the table toppers elected to bat first despite the threat of rain later in the day.

They began positively as Phil Oliver struck four early boundaries.

His demise, to the bowling of Mathew Cook (2 for 48), brought Wilson to the crease and it was he who played the innings of the day.

Wilson (101 not out) struck 15 boundaries as he added 50 with Danny Wilkinson (30) and 81 with Joel Dugdale to keep the innings ticking along nicely throughout.

Wilson scored all round the wicket in what was his first ton for Shireshead allowing a declaration after 40 overs with the score at 197 for 8,

Andrew Sharman finishing with 3 for 49 as Bare battled hard in the field.

The Bare reply began badly as Tom Jacques smartly caught John Sharman from the bowling of Jack off the first ball of the innings.

Andrew Sharman (28) and Frank Smith (22) then however added 43 quickly as Bare recovered.

The fall of Sharman and Archit Bhardwaj in quick succession, to superb catches by Wilson and Simon Gould respectively, left Bare back in the mire as Jack warmed to his task and found his line and length to bowl a hostile spell.

Slow men Tom Jacques and Jack Dodd added a wicket apiece as the score slipped to 81 for 8 with Bare losing six wickets for 13 runs.

The rain clouds were gathering however and Shireshead were desperate to finish the job.

Phil Oliver (2 for 2) proved to be the man for the occasion as two wickets in two balls clinched the 15 points for victory despite the stubborn resistance of Alan Regan.
