Inconsistent Vernon’s are languishing in the mid-table of the Premier Division, and they face an uphill battle to defend their title.

Garstang have won five of their last seven league fixtures and skipper Walling is calling on his side to be on their guard ahead of Saturday’s tie.

“We need to concentrate on our form, what we can’t do is expect the opposition to be poor,” he said.

Vernons have won a few and lost a few games, they are a good side and what we need to anticipate is playing the best Vernons.

“They are traditionally hard to beat at there own ground, on Saturday they come to us, we know the conditions well and we know we have to be at our best.”

It was a mixed weekend for Garstang, all three teams notched up league victories on Saturday.

But on Sunday, Garstang were defeated by rivals Longridge in the Meyler Cup as well as both the second and third teams losing in their respective cup ties.

After a bittersweet weekend, Walling anticipates the club to bounce back. “After recording three wins on Saturday , it was disappointing for the club that all three teams lost on Sunday,”he added. “We’ll all look to bounce back at the weekend.”
