Unbeaten run goes on as weather bad weather saves Torrisholme

The visitors posted a commanding 224 in the sunshine only for the conditions to dramatically change as Torrisholme’s reply stuttered in the dark, overcast and ultimately wet conditions.

An incomplete game was the end result as Matt Jackson’s side escaped to remain top of the table.

Losing the toss the hosts were asked to field with Jackson (4-62) and Joe Gibbins (0-19) starting well.

However when Sam Bromley (26) was put down at slip and Tom Potter (33) was given runs that didn’t come off the bat it looked like it might be Eccleston’s day.

The theme continued when edges were found and balls ballooned just wide of fielders as the openers put 47 on for the first wicket.

The in-form Graham Lee (3-42) was introduced into the attack, and as he so often does claimed a wicket in his first over, with Chris Parry again taking the catch in what has become a regular combination for Torrisholme.

Davide Hewson (45) and then Matthew Ashcroft (34) continued the momentum and it took the introduction of Jeff Stobbart (3-53) to find the next two wickets.

From a fine platform, Eccleston kicked on however, Thomas Wilkinson (49) playing well and riding his luck.

Jackson returned to the attack and combined with Parry to dismiss Wilkinson and then clean up the tail but the damage was done.

The weather began to take a turn for the worse in the tea interval as conditions began to favour the bowlers.

James Ferguson (0) and Adam Bee (25) opened up for Torrisholme but the former fell early to a smart catch at slip by Lee Heyes off Daniel Flannagan.

It brought form man Parry to the crease and he made sure the visitors didn’t settle, setting a solid foundation with Bee as they moved on to 89-1.

Eccleston had other ideas and Wilkinson (4-16) accounted for Bee, Daniel Woods (4), Glenn Russell (3) and Jeff Stobbart (1) to leave Torrisholme in no man’s land at 111-5.

With Parry (74 not out) at the other end the rain came at a good time for the hosts with the players proceeding to go on and off at regular intervals before the captains shook hands with Torrisholme finishing on 117-7, taking five points and Eccleston seven.

Torrisholme will look to extend their unbeaten run to 10 when they travel to Wrea Green on Saturday.
