Torrisholme kicked off life in the Palace Shield Division One with a four-wicket win over White Coppice at Boundary Meadow.

Matt Jackson, starting his sixth season as captain, won the toss and elected to bowl, taking 3-32 as the visitors were bowled out for 93.

Jackson removed danger men Kyle Dixon (13) and Chris Maguire (18) with support from Daniel Woods (1-21).

The star man however was Graham Lee (5-12) who picked up from where he left off from last season, taking five wickets and nearly picking up a hat-trick along the way.

After the fine spell of slow left arm bowling White Coppice did well to recover from 63-8 thanks to some lower order hitting.

Debutant James Ferguson (0-22) and veteran Neil Jordan (1-3) joined in as Torrisholme set up a more than getable total with the visitors dismissed for 93.

Things didn’t start well in reply however with ducks for Adam Bee, Mark Cottam and Karl Hansson leaving the hosts 0-3 in pursuit of victory.

Man of the match Woods (42) came to the rescue however, and with support Ferguson, Jeff Stobbart and then Jack Andreae (12 not out), turned a horror start into a comfortable win on the opening day of the new season.

Torrisholme picked up 12 points to the visitors’ two and next head to Eccleston.
