SLIDESHOW: Randiv and Dixon take fight to Chorley attack

Morecambe continued their wonderful form on Saturday and continue to stay top of the Northern Premier League thanks to a crushing seven wicket victory over Chorley at Woodhill Lane.

Bowling first and restricting Chorley to just 99 all out Josh Dixon’s side cruised to their victory target inside 27 overs.

New Chorley skipper Ian Dickinson won the toss on a straw coloured Woodhill Lane pitch and had no hesitation in having a bat.

Morecambe tore out of the blocks with the ball, skipper Dixon taking a smart catch at second slip to remove Edwin Moulton (0) off the bowling of the impressive Jamie 
Cassidy.

Eddy Read toiled away, bowling extremely tightly from the Football Ground end and ultimately got his reward when Lewis Edge smartly caught Jack Bentham (9) at the wicket to give the new recruit his 50th league wicket of the season.

The introduction, however, of Suraj Randiv proved pivotal as the Sri Lankan removed the dangerous Moulton (21) followed by Ian Oakes (0) first ball to put Morecambe firmly in the driving seat.

Chorley were now wobbling and when Dixon introduced Tommy Clough he almost instantly removed Joseph Tiffin (9).

Chorley’s tail showed signs of wagging through Kieran McCullough (20) and Peter Cummings (14), however the spin twins of Clough and Randiv were to mop up the tail, Chorley making just 99, Randiv finishing with excellent figures of 5-25 from his 11.3 overs.

Morecambe were keen to finish the game quickly but were to lose the experienced Mark Woodhead early caught smartly at second slip from the bowling of Moulton.

Skipper Dixon however combined with his professional Randiv and the pair went about dismantling the Chorley total, taking Morecambe past the 50 
mark.

James Lee was to remove Randiv, caught and bowled for an excellent 43, while Ryan Pearson came and went but Morecambe didn’t wobble as form man Lewis Edge (13 not out) joined his skipper Dixon to see their side home with no further alarms, Dixon finishing 37 not out.
