Having posted a competitive score of 227-9 from their 50 overs, Mark Walling’s side saw their hosts’ batsmen reach their target with eight wickets and three-and-a-half overs in hand.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Garstang saw their openers put on 81 for the opening wicket.

That partnership was broken when Fayaz Ughradar was LBW to Marc Hadwin for 26, becoming the first of his seven victims.

It also triggered a mini-collapse which saw five wickets fall for 56 runs as 81-0 became 137-5.

That was down to Hadwin who collected the first six wickets on his way to figures of 7-73.

Wicket number two was Michael Wellings (6), who was LBW with the score on 87, followed by Michael Walling (57), Coen Oosthuysen (1) and Matthew Crowther (14).

At 137-5, Garstang needed to recover and it was led by skipper Mark Walling and brother Ian.

They added 63 for the sixth wicket before Mark became Hadwin’s sixth wicket as he was stumped for 60, followed by Ian (37), who was dismissed by Harrison Cox without any further addition to the score.

Cox also accounted for Naqib Rahman (0), while Mark Winstanley (6) became Hadwin’s seventh victim.

It was left to Travis Pieters (7 not out) and Danny Gilbert (1 not out) to take Garstang through to the close of their innings.

They then enjoyed the perfect start when Ian Walling had Josh Dixon (0) caught by Crowther with the score on 10.

However, that brought Ben Barrow and John Boyle together as they took the game away from Garstang with a 192-run partnership for the second wicket.

That ended when Ian Walling had Barrow (91) caught by Gilbert to leave Netherfield 202-2.

Boyle, nevertheless, continued on his way and was 111 not out with John Huck undefeated on 12 as Netherfield took victory on 228-2.
