Chipping Road chief Haworth is buoyed by form

The Chipping Road outfit are currently eight league and cup matches unbeaten.

Longridge started the Moore and Smalley Palace Shield Premier Division season poorly, winning just one of their opening four fixtures.

But after an excellent run of form, Ian Simpson’s men now sit fourth in the league table, as well as having a place in the third round of the LCB Knockout Competiton, after beating Bolton Association outfit Atherton on Sunday.

Prior to Sunday’s success, Longridge thrashed rivals Garstang by nine wickets, knocking them off top spot.

With Chipping Road buzzing, Haworth praised the form of the first team, as well as their young look.

He said: “Confidence can make all the difference, the first team have excelled recently – Sunday’s win was an excellent victory. I think only Ian Simpson was above the age of 30.

“It’s what the club is all about, getting the youngsters to the top level.

“Matt Greenall is only 18 and he is opening the bowling, 16-year-old Alex Mason bowled nine overs on Sunday and Luke Platt is having an excellent year.”

This weekend, Longridge welcome Fylde in the league and Garstang in the Meyler Cup quarter-final on Sunday.

After Saturday’s league win, Haworth is expecting Garstang to bounce back.

He added: “We had an easy win against them but that was the first time in a while.

“They have a lot of quality players and it should be a very good game.”
