Iain Burstow was the hero of the hour, the off-spinner bowling Chris Harty to hand the hosts a three-run win.

Earlier Lancaster had recovered from 108-7 to post 146-6 batting first.

Club chairman Brendan Hetherington returned to action with a fine 27 not out supported by Matthew Liver who finished unbeaten on 12 as Ben Simm’s men batted out their overs.

Charlie Swarbrick and Alex Metcalfe both made 22 at the top of the order but no-one made a game-changing knock with professional Rameez Raja having returned to Pakistan.

Jim Lee was the pick of the bowlers as a lively spell rewarded him with four wickets.

Having posted a more than competitive total, Lancaster were soon in the ascendancy with Chorley slipping to 83-7.

As the shadows lengthened, Kieran McCullagh (41) and young Ed Moulton (30) improvised cleverly as they battled hard to revive what had appeared a lost cause.

But it proved too little, too late as Liver took four wickets and Simm and Burstow three apiece.

Lancaster complete their Northern Premier League season at Barrow on Saturday.
