Young cyclists from around the country arrived for a day of fierce competition when the round two of the Cycling Development North West Youth Championships came to Salt Ayre.

Salt Ayre Cog Set had 25 cyclists in action at the event on Saturday, April 11.

In the under 10 category Isaac Atkinson, Rhys Ashton, Jack Stanley and Luke Leadbetter raced for the boys whilst Nancye Roberts and Emilia Wood raced for the girls.

In the under 12 girls Evie Barrow finished a very impressive second in both her races despite tough competition while Tilly Percy was delighted with two fourth-place finishes.

The Cog Set boys were out in force - Adam Hodgson, James McCracken, Raurai Taylor-Smith, John Roberts, William Dykes and Ben Hamilton all raced well in this packed category.

In the under 14 category Ben Barlow raced to third place whilst Amy Monkhouse and Ffion Ashton both finished within the top 10 girls.

The race squad comprising Joe Baldwin, Toby Carway, Adam Hall, Sam Monkhouse, Jacob Rae, Elliot Reed, Jonny Wong and George Wharton were again out in force with five riders finishing in the top 10 in the first race.

There were some tense moments in race two as Hall suffered a crash in the sprint to the finish but thankfully no serious injuries were sustained.
