The Powderhouse Lane side have won two and lost two in North One West so far this season but are the only side to have picked up a four-try bonus point in all their games so far.

Bolton are the visitors to Lancaster on Saturday with Owens crediting Brian Ashton’s influence on his side’s style of play.

He said: “It’s the Brian Ashton way, heads up rugby.

“We want play with the ball in our hands and not give it away too much kicking.

“Just about every side in the division has won two and lost two but we’ve got the bonus points.

“Hopefully the tries will keep coming on Saturday.”

Saturday’s narrow 39-31 defeat to Wilmslow was another thriller with Owens pleased to see his side progress.

He said: “It’s nice to play Wilmslow because against the Cumbrians they tend to stuff it up their jumpers and try and maul you. But Wilmslow are like us and like to fling it about.

“We just made more mistakes than them on Saturday but there’s positive signs compared with the week before.

“We put more phases together and we were spilling on the fifth or sixth when we had a chance to score rather than the first.”
