Chorley capitalise on second innings slump

After restricting the visitors to 114 the hosts crumbled to 65 all out.

A damp track at Lune Road was always going to be a tough proposition for batsmen and so it proved when Iain Perrieman had opener William Harvey caught behind for eight.

Stuart Naden and Ian Dickinson got starts for the visitors but Ben Simm’s early introduction pried them from the crease - Dickinson trapped lbw while Naden was out to a smart catch by Abhimanyu Khod.

Chorley pro Wihan Lubbe would make the top score of the day (21) at number four but didn’t find much support from his fellow middle order batsmen.

Charlie Swarbrick combined with Simm to tighten the squeeze on the run rate and the former was rewarded by bowling Will Moulton for a duck.

Simm once again had Khod to thank for completing a catch picking up Joseph Tiffin as his third scalp before Swarbrick worked away at Ian Oakes (10) and Lubbe.

A quickfire 19 from Kieran McCullough pushed the visitors beyond three figures and before Liam Moffat mopped up the tail with three quick wickets.

Lancaster were without their opening batsmen Jamie Heywood so Khod and Rajat Agarwal filled the breach but couldn’t hold back the tide.

Young paceman Edwin Moulton removed Agarwal and the in-form Charlie Swarbrick for low scores before Lee Marshall met a similar fate at the hands of Lubbe to leave Lancaster in the mire at three down.

Khod held firm for his 17 but he too joined the procession when he found Ed Moulton off McCullough.
It got worse for the hosts when Kieran Moffat was cleaned up first ball by Moulton but Luke Phillips (17) and Iain Perrieman (10) stopped the rot with a brief partnership.

However, the recovery was not long-lived as leg-spinner Ian Oakes took three wickets for no runs to tear the heart out of the Lancaster lower order.

Lubbe issued the final blows to any Lancaster hopes by removing Simm and Moffat in quick succession to leave Lancaster on the end of a heavy 49-run loss.
