Carnforth edge out Heysham as Westgate beat league leaders

Carnforth picked up a final-over win over Heysham in Division One of the Westmorland Cricket League on Saturday.

The visitors were bowled out for 158 batting first with Carnforth squeezing home by one wicket, finishing on 160-9.

There was also a win for Silverdale, who were six-wicket victors over Burneside after bowling the Cumbrians out for just 66.

Westgate, third in the table, got the better of league leaders Arnside to move within 13 points of top spot.

Andy Hill’s men dismissed Arnside for 57, the captain picking up 7-21, before taking the spoils by two wickets, finishing on 59-8.

In Division Two, Trimpell went down to a five-wicket defeat at home to top of the table Sedgwick.

The hosts were bowled out for 140 with Sedgwick finishing on 142-5.

Dave Hannigan’s 94 helped Westgate A to an eight-wicket win over Shireshead A.

The hosts posted 173-7, Colin Twiname hitting 50 in a first-wicket stand of 91.

Sid Gani’s 3-28 put the breaks on but it was still a more than respectable total in 45 overs.

Captain Hannigan steered his side to victory however, his 127-ball knock including eight fours and a six, as Westgate finished on 174-2 with seven overs to spare.
