Victorious Vidal maintains great start to new season

Skerton Amateur Boxing Club fighter Andre Vidal Junior was in action last Friday in Preston and claimed a deserved points victory.

Vidal’s opponent was Blackpool-based Sonny Coates of Sharpstyle ABC – Andre was giving away a year in age and a lot of experience, so it was always going to be a tough bout for the Lancaster fighter.

Andre started the first round fast and landed some great scoring shots and clearly won the first round.

The second round was a closer-run affair, with both boxers trying to claim the centre of the ring and command the round, but Vidal let go a flurry of shots late in the round that probably won him the second.

In the third Coates stepped up the pace and had Vidal on the back foot for the first half of the round, and was landing some good shots, but Vidal dug deep to end strongly.

As the referee called the boxers to the centre of the ring for the result, Vidal looked the happier of the two and his hand was raised as winner, maintaining his 100 per cent start to the season.

Andre now boxes in Sheffield on Sunday in the National Semi Finals of the CYP (Clubs for Young People).
